You may be wondering about the terminology we use describing our chocolate. Let's demystify it:
Superherbs: These herbs are extremely well studied and have been used in the Taoist and Ayurvedic systems for thousands of years. The world of Taoist and Ayurvedic herbs also has many different levels of quality. The herbs we use come from the most reputable sources and each batch is third-party tested for purity and to make sure there is no contamination.
Superfoods: We incorporate the most nutrient dense foods that have been eaten by indigenous cultures around the world for thousands of years. We only choose the ones providing maximum nutritional potency.
Sugar-Free: Not only there are no hidden ingredients that we conveniently forgot but also there are no chemically-sourced fake sweeteners allowing us to state our chocolate is “sugar-free.” This treat is sweetened without the use of white sugar, brown sugar, cane sugar, honey, erythritol, brown rice syrup, maple syrup, blackstrap molasses, whey low, splenda, agave, or coconut palm sugar. This means it doesn’t contain anything that will spike your blood sugar or aggravate sensitive conditions.
Raw: The raw ingredients, including the cacao and other superfoods, are never heated above 118° to protect the integrity of all nutrients, enzymes, and neurotransmitters which would be destroyed above that temperature. The herbs used in the chocolate are exposed to heat during the extraction process. This is essential to make the active compounds bio-available, unlocking the true potency of these superherbs. Raw chocolate is more expensive than conventional chocolate because it takes considerably longer to process the beans into the final chocolate form without using high levels of heat.
Made in a dedicated facility: Addictive Wellness Chocolate is made in a dedicated facility that is at all times 100% free from all common allergens including soy, dairy, nuts, GMOs, sugar, eggs, wheat, gluten, and fish.
Dairy-Free: We use no dairy products whatsoever in our chocolate.
GMO-Free: We do not use any genetically modified organisms or their derivatives in our chocolate.
Cacao: This is raw chocolate in its purest form. In the chocolate world, there are many variations and qualities of cacao. We use the highest quality heirloom Arriba Nacional cacao carefully selected and procured from Ecuador.
Beyond Fair Trade: The simple fact is that fair trade wages are often very low, well below our standards. In organic cacao production in South America, everyone is paid over "fair-trade" wages as there is more margin in the product. In other words, the chocolate is higher quality, so it can be sold for more, leaving more money to pay the people at the lower levels of the operation. Fair Trade is primarily an issue in Africa where massive chocolate corporations drive the price per pound down so low that workers involved get squeezed to ultra-low wages.
