About Our products
WHY ORGANIC, RAW & VEGAN?
The average person uses at least 10 personal care products per day. They include things like shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, lip balm, sunscreen, body lotion, shaving products, and cosmetics among others. And what about your children? On any given day you might rub, spray, or pour some combination of sunscreen, diaper cream, shampoo, lotion, and maybe even insect repellant on their skin.
Most people use these products without a second thought, and believe that the government must certainly be policing the safety of the mixtures in these myriad containers. But this information is actually wrong. The government does not require health studies or pre-market testing for these products before they are sold.
People apply an average of 126 unique ingredients on their skin daily. These chemicals, whether they seep through the skin, rinse down the drain, or flush down the toilet in human excretions, are causing concerns for human health, and for the impacts they may have to wildlife, rivers and streams.
In August 2005, when scientists published a study finding a relationship between phthalates and feminization of U.S. male babies, they named ‘fragrance’ as a possible culprit. When parabens were found in human breast tumor tissue, it was believed that deodorant was the source. And when studies show, again and again, that hormone systems in wildlife are thrown in disarray by common water pollutants, once again the list of culprits include personal care products, rinsing down drains and into rivers.

Why Organic & Wildcrafted Organic?
Organic products are better for your skin and overall health. Everything we put on our skin is able to be absorbed into our bodies and can positively or negatively affect our internal ecosystem. Personal care products can have very real effects on organ health, the endocrine system that controls hormone production, and overall vitality. Our pure products are made entirely, or mostly of organically grown plants and/or wildcrafted plant matter. Wildcrafted plants are collected from their natural habitat – literally from the wild – in lieu of a farming facility.
Organic products work better. You wouldn’t go to a 5 star restaurant expecting to see artificial flavors and dyes would you? No. That’s because high quality food that tastes delicious and nourishes the body, requires high quality ingredients. Same with skincare. Our products work better because they are made with superior ingredients. You only get the benefits of the pure botanicals, and no potentially harmful side affects from toxic additives.
Organic products are better for the environment. Organically grown plants originate from farms that do not use synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides, herbicides or GMO’s. Toxin laden products end up down the drain and into our environment, destroying plant and animal life.
Our impeccable products are as raw as possible too! Using raw ingredients is very important because all the vital nutrients still remain within the plant matter. Heating the plants above 115º can destroy many of the vitamins, minerals, enzymes & phytonutrients. The fatty oils in our products are cold pressed and completely unheated.
Raw essential oils do not exist because they are produced by steam distilling plant matter. Most of the essential oils in our products, and our singular oils are produced using a long, slow distillation at the lowest temperature possible. Because essential oils are incredibly concentrated substances, they are extremely potent and effective.
Everything in our store is 100% cruelty-free. We will never carry products that are tested on animals. Vegan and Vegetarian skin care and cosmetics are not just beauty products that are not tested on animals, they are also products made without animal or animal by-product ingredients. As an increasing number of people become vegetarian or vegan, they choose alternatives for their beauty and health. Even non-vegan consumers often search for animal-free alternatives, sometimes because they're developing an increased awareness of the world around them and other times because they are looking for alternatives to deal with their skin sensitivities. Many dermatologists and allergists say that switching to animal-free, more natural products, and also avoiding toxic chemicals and synthetic additives can cure common skin conditions, such as dermatitis.
*A few of our items do contain bee products, like honey, beeswax or royal jelly. Any items containing bee products are noted as such by the “beegan” symbol in the product description. The majorities of the products in our store are bee-free and are noted as such with the vegan symbol. For the very small portion of products that contain milk or yogurt proteins, or one with lanolin, are noted with the absence of both vegan and beegan symbols. Any animal products used are always kindly and ethically harvested, where the animals, microorganisms and their respective ecosystems are protected, sustained and never harmed.
Certified vs. Non-certified Organic
You might have noticed most of our brands are not USDA Certified Organic. While this symbol is important, it’s also not as imperative as you might think. What a lot of our brands feel is that the USDA’s standards are simply not high enough. The Certified Organic seal requires that 95% of the ingredients be organic. That’s great, but also is misleading. If there is 5% questionable and 95% organic, would you still want to use it?
Unlike organic plants that can be certified, there is no certification for wildcrafted plants, yet they have been shown to be superior to organically grown crops. Certified organic growers are permitted to use certain types of pesticides on their crops up to three months prior to harvest. By that time, any substances have already been absorbed into the whole plant, and traces may be found in them, yet the grower is not required to claim use of any chemicals. Only wildcrafted plants are grown in the most pristine environments available, free from human intervention, and are truly toxin-free.
A lot of our products are 100% organic & wildcrafted, and some are partially organic, but always 100% natural. Some ingredients may not be available in the wild, or from a certified organic farm. This doesn’t mean that it came from a farm ridden with pesticides, herbicides & GMO’s; it just means it came from a farm that is not certified as an organic growing facility. This could be because of many reasons, such as the farmer’s having similar feelings about the USDA’s certification standards, or perhaps not being able to bear the high financial cost of obtaining the organic certification. We care a great deal about the purity of the ingredients we use on our own bodies and have done our best to uphold these standards when selecting the brands we offer.
